What our Bereavement support volunteers say

Our service is run by an incredibly dedicated mixed team of volunteers and permanent staff. They work tirelessly to deliver the best service possible, whilst also making time for their own career focused growth. Here is what some of our volunteers have to say about working with Cruse and their experiences:

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy going on the journey with clients and seeing them through to a point where they are able to continue on by themselves.

I was informed about Cruse by a university. When I found out what they did I wanted to become a volunteer to use my skills and help people in whatever way I can.

Having the support of other BVs and supervisors is always a comforting thought. You're never on your own with anything

What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering?

I would always recommend it. Although times with clients is always professional and respectful, there is always laughter among the team.

Has your work at Cruse changed your perspective on death?

It has made me realise we are surrounded by death, Its a normal part of life and helps when we talk about it. It is not something I would be scared to talk about.

When I saw the training course offered by Cruse online, it seemed the ideal way for me to make a start in pursuing what I wanted to do. Because its voluntary, there is also a sense of 'giving back' to the community

We offer support, advice and information to children, young people and adults when someone dies. We work to enhance society’s care of bereaved people.
